Miraculously, it has been less than a month since my last post. This one continues my review of our short Norwegian Cruise Line adventure on the Getaway in early October.
This cruise was always meant to be a relaxing escape from the busy day to day that is life in Northern Virginia. And it was certainly that. Dear Wife and I – mostly I – gorged ourselves on the food, lazed in bed for hours at a time, and enjoyed the comfortable climes of the ship interior.
And so Saturday went. We literally stayed in bed until 2pm. It was so late when we got up that lunch was nearly shut down everywhere. Thankfully, we found that the American Diner was open. It was a simple lunch of a burger and a milkshake, but it hit the spot. Thankfully, it was outside but shaded. The hot Bahamian sun was pounding down on the ship and those poor souls that made their way off the ship.
After lunch, we strolled the ship…including the pool deck…for a bit before meeting our friends at the onboard pub for a drink and some wings. Then it was back to the room for a well earned (😂🤣) nap.
Dinner was at one of the included eateries. It was nice. Don’t go expecting amazing and you won’t be disappointed. There were two things that did stand out to me, however. First, the seats were wide enough to not embarrass me. Those of you who’ve sailed on Celebrity or Virgin Voyages know that seat widths can vary widely, and it’s uncomfortable when you have to ask for a wider chair or a chair without arms. Secondly, you can order a steak from the upcharge steakhouse for a modest fee. And dare I say, the steak I ordered was the best steak I’ve ever had at sea.
After dinner, it was time for the casino we made our way to the Sunset Bar for after dinner drinks and then quickly made our way to the casino again. Dear Wife was kind/bored enough to find good drinks for us. Meanwhile I ran up by bankroll by another hundred dollars.
A little later, our friends and we headed to the comedy club to watch the comedians from the first night. It was a good show, but the seating was very uncomfortable for both a larger humanoid like me but also for normal sized people like Dear Wife. Even Dear Wife was happy for the show to end and for us to return to the comfortable seats in the casino. And we stayed a bit longer than anticipated. We ended up leaving the casino around 1230am with a little more than the $200 with which I set aside for the day.
