Just like all my posts, this one has taken longer to get to than anticipated. It seems I picked up a bug either on the cruise or on the way back. Such is life. But here I am to continue my update on our short Norwegian Getaway adventure.
Once we had a few drinks at the Sunset Bar with friends, it was time for dinner. Dear Wife and I returned to the room to get changed. Dear Wife, being the ever beautiful and ever fashionable woman she is, changed into a lovely black dress. For me, it was khaki’s and an airy Columbia shirt. Mine, of course, was not as dressy as hers, but we were both comfortable.
We headed to the restaurant, Le Bistro, to meet our friends. Upon arriving, they were already seated and waiting. Le Bistro is NCL’s French specialty restaurant. It has a decent menu with very few supplements.
As this was our first experience with NCL’s Free at Sea Plus, we were a bit disappointed to find that we couldn’t get Veuve Clicquot by the glass, as that was something we had seen advertised on various online platforms. Fortunately, Dear Wife had already found a suitable substitute that, in my opinion, is a better wine than Veuve: Champagne Haton Classic. (There was also a rose bubbly that was decent, but not nearly as good as the Haton.)
So with champagne in hand – or hands, in Dear Wife’s case – we ordered. The food was quite good and very filling. I had escargots and French onion soup to start. Then was the beef filet for me. Dear Wife had the escargot and beef tartare, then the lamb chops. For dessert, I had the poached pear while Dear Wife had the cheese plate. We both had a double espresso to wake us up for the rest of the night.

After dinner, we retired to our room for a bit to change into something more comfortable and relax a bit before the show. It was an 18+ stand-up comedy show. It was good. I was a bit surprised at how good the comedy was as my past experiences on cruises is that comedians try to be edgy without offensive. These two comedians did not get that memo, thankfully.
Next up was a stop to Dear Wife’s least favorite place onboard any cruise ship: the Casino. I had brought a pretty small bankroll of $400. I put $200 in a slot and after a couple of hours left with about $1000. I gave Dear Wife $600 and was back to my starting bankroll. Not a bad night.
